Parts is Parts : This is the result of a recent online class I took. The one assignment was to select a subject then make ten quality, different shots from that one subject. The idea was to go beyond the obvious, easy photo or two. This class made me stretch beyond understanding intellectually that many shots can be made from one subject to actual practical experience. The class insisted I really look at my subject and consider new opportunities for representing parts of it leading up to the final reveal of the whole subject. I hope you enjoy what you see.

I really wanted to shoot the house remodel that was going on nearby on Sellwood Blvd, but there were so many workmen I felt self conscious so I took photos of this great flower instead.

We're considering photos for our Season's Greetings cards. Here's one of the candidates from our vacation to the Oregon Coast in June of this year. This is the Yaquina Head Light in Newport Beach. A lucky shot taken with my Powershot G6 since the sun was so bright I couldn't see the image on the LCD. I took it standing on Cobble Beach which is its own exercise in maintaining balance and stability.

Took this on the walk to the neighborhood Farmer's Market. The last market of the year on a half sunny, half rainy day. This sunflower reflected my mood as summer comes to a close.

I've been hoping to capture this sign for awhile....basically ever since we moved here a year ago. Tonight, we had dinner in the Overlook Neighborhood nearby so I got my chance since we were there after dark.

Had dinner here tonight before going to see On The Wing at Cinema 21. Blue Moon is an enjoyable pub cog in the McMenamin's empire. Good beer, decent pub food, great vibe.

Rainbow At Sunset, Nacka Finntorp, Sweden

This is a shot from my trip to Sweden in mid-August. One night we had the amazing sight of a full, double rainbow at sunset. I had no internet access while I was there so I'm posting some of the photos now.

Nacka is a suburb of Stockholm, Sweden.

Mt. Rainier From The Air

This was the opening photo on my trip to Sweden. (I'm posting them now since I had no internet access the two weeks I was there.) Was lucky enough to sit on the side of the plane that Rainier was on and we had clear, cloudless skies most of the flight. (The sun never actually went down the entire flight from Portland, OR, to Amsterdam!) Looking down from the plane, I was also fortunate I had my tiny P&S in my handbag and quickly got several good snaps of the mountain before we zoomed past.

Had to do a little work in Photoshop to remove a severe bluish/grayish cast from either the atmosphere or the airplane windows or both just so the clouds would look white again. Also, the pic was very grainy since my P&S is a cheapie so I used Despeckle and Smartblur.

Kitty Pause

Malibu, our tabby, looks up from her grooming ritual at just the right time. I love how the light profiles her face. Too bad her tail was stretched out farther than my cutoff. Still, catching her for a photo is incredibly lucky.

Light and Medallion, Moreland Theater
The Moreland Theater, in our little Westmoreland downtown is a great venue built in 1926 with wonderful period deco details such as this light medallion in the lobby. Grain and ink filters added in PSE6.
